A bold reimagining of the modern African workplace — where contemporary open-plan environments fuse with rich, Afrocentric design cues to create a headquarters that embodies GEAP's identity and ambitions.
The GEAP Offices project represents a bold reimagining of the modern African workplace — a space that is as functionally dynamic as it is culturally resonant. The design vision fuses contemporary open-plan working environments with rich, Afrocentric design cues, creating a headquarters that embodies GEAP's identity and ambitions.
Spread across multiple interconnected zones, the office accommodates focused individual work, collaborative team sessions, informal networking, and client-facing interactions — all within a single cohesive environment designed to inspire productivity and well-being.
The GEAP Offices design is anchored by four bold design principles — each working in concert to create a workspace that is as culturally meaningful as it is functionally exceptional. Together they produce an environment that energises, connects, and inspires every person who enters.
Throughout the space, African cultural heritage is celebrated through Kente-inspired textiles, Ankara print upholstery, handwoven pendant lights, and vibrant geometric patterns. These elements are woven into the architecture itself — from multicoloured slat wall installations to richly patterned flooring.
Kente · Ankara · Geometric PatternsNature is a central protagonist. Living green walls, trailing ceiling plants, organic forms, and natural timber surfaces are deployed throughout to reduce stress, improve air quality, and draw the outdoor environment inward — particularly prominent in the break-out terraces and lounge areas.
Living Walls · Timber · Natural LightRather than assigning fixed workstations, the layout empowers employees to choose the setting that best suits their task — whether a focused hot-desk pod, a casual lounge seat, an enclosed glass meeting box, or a semi-private booth. Flexibility is built into the very DNA of the space.
Hot-Desking · Flexible Zones · ChoiceThe material language balances warmth and precision: natural oak timber, exposed brick, polished concrete-effect tile, dark acoustic mesh panels, and crisp white work surfaces. Accent colours — emerald green, burnt orange, lime, and ochre — energise the palette while maintaining sophistication.
Oak · Brick · Concrete · Acoustic MeshThe primary working floor features curved, cluster-style white work surfaces arranged in pods of four to six. Red-and-black ergonomic task chairs provide a lively contrast, while low acoustic screens between workstations offer visual privacy without total separation.
Above, a dramatic acoustic ceiling composed of dark angular panels doubles as a bold sculptural installation — defining the zone while managing noise across the open floor.
Connecting the workstation zones and meeting rooms are generously proportioned lounge areas. Cream sofas, Ankara-upholstered armchairs, tribal-print ottomans, and woven pendant lamps create a relaxed, living-room atmosphere that encourages spontaneous collaboration and informal conversation.
The multicoloured slat walls act as visual landmarks, guiding movement through the floor and celebrating African design heritage at every turn.
For tasks requiring deeper concentration or confidential conversations, padded booth alcoves are set into a textured woven-panel wall. Each booth features Ankara cushion seating, a small work surface, and a woven pendant light — offering privacy without total enclosure.
Adjacent rattan armchairs provide a transitional seating option between open and enclosed spaces, creating a gradient of privacy across the floor.
Glass-walled meeting modules are positioned within the biophilic lounge corridor, offering full transparency while maintaining acoustic separation. Internally, a yellow-topped conference table and task seating accommodate team sessions of up to eight.
A separate formal boardroom provides a timber-panelled, AV-equipped space for larger presentations, with ceiling-integrated linear lighting and upholstered rollerblade chairs.
The crowning feature of the project is the covered outdoor terrace — an immersive biophilic environment where cascading ceiling plants hang from cloud-shaped illuminated frames, green walls create lush vertical gardens, and a mix of rattan, woven, and rope-textured furniture invites extended relaxation.
Yellow banquette seating lines the perimeter, while a teal accent palette adds vibrancy. This zone blurs the boundary between inside and outside, functioning as a premium break, meeting, and hospitality destination.
The GEAP Office design prioritises occupant well-being through evidence-based design strategies. Biophilic elements — including living walls, planting throughout all zones, and abundant natural light — have been shown to reduce cortisol levels and boost cognitive performance.
Natural materials such as timber, rattan, and stone-effect tile minimise the use of synthetic finishes. Acoustic management through ceiling baffles and booth seating reduces noise pollution in the open-plan areas. Activity-based working reduces the overall footprint of the fitout, lowering embodied carbon while simultaneously improving workplace flexibility.
The project aligns with GEAP's commitment to sustainable development across the African continent.
Warm oak surfaces used across workstations, wall panelling, and flooring to anchor the space in natural warmth.
Textured exposed brick walls add an industrial rawness balanced by the richness of the Afrocentric palette.
Concrete-effect tile flooring grounds the space with a refined, contemporary finish throughout all zones.
Dark acoustic mesh panels serve dual purpose — managing sound levels while creating dramatic visual texture.
A signature accent colour — used in upholstery, cushions, and planting to evoke nature and vitality.
A warm, energising accent drawn from African earth tones — applied to chairs, feature walls, and accessories.
Ochre and lime provide lively contrast accents in soft furnishings and architectural details throughout.
Ceiling-integrated linear LED strips define zones and provide even, productive task lighting across the floor.
Handwoven pendant lamps — a direct reference to African craft — warm the lounge and booth zones beautifully.
Cloud-shaped illuminated frames on the outdoor terrace from which cascading ceiling plants dramatically hang.
Precision accent downlighting highlights artwork, material textures, and key focal points across all zones.
Floor-to-ceiling living walls installed in lounge and terrace areas — the biophilic heart of the entire design.
